These last few months have been very busy at Feeding Families Foundation. The Foundation was officially incorporated in September of this year, approximately one year after our daughter was diagnosed with cancer.
Since incorporating, we launched our website – feedingfamiliesfoundation.org – and the Foundation was officially recognized by the IRS as a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This allows the Foundation to accept donations that are tax deductible to the donor.
We are proud to share that the Foundation has raised the funding needed to launch our flagship program – the Parent Plate Program – in January 2024 at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, on the hematology/oncology floor of Smilow Cancer Center. It is important to note that the Program is being started as a “pilot” or put differently, scaled back to start. It will start by offering one meal per day to the parent staying with their child in the hospital. We are working hard to raise additional funding to expand the program to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as offer additional meals each day.
And we are excited for the Foundation’s first annual event – The Winter Virtual Golf Classic: Fore! Parents of Hospitalized Children – at Golf Cove in North Haven, Connecticut. It will take place on January 20, 2024. This winter golf event will have teams of at least 4 players play 9-hole scramble in a 2-hour time slot. There will be at least 3 time slots to choose from, which will include 2.5 hours of open bar and appetizers for all ticket purchasers. Tickets for golfers are $100 per person. Tickets for supporters, not playing golf, are $65 per person. There are general sponsorship opportunities for businesses, as well as sponsorship opportunities of each golf room which can be decorated by the sponsor. Golf room sponsorships are $500 and are limited to six total for the day. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and opportunities to be recognized for stand-alone donations. We are working hard to raise funds so our Parent Plate Program can continue to help and provide for those families in need with children in the hospital suffering from critical illnesses.
