We are delighted to announce that the Young Lawyers Section (YLS) of the Connecticut Bar Association has chosen Feeding Families Foundation as its 2023 nonprofit honoree. Each year, YLS chooses a nonprofit to spotlight and 100% of the funds raised around their annual holiday party goes to the chosen charity.
We started Feeding Families Foundation to address an issue we personally experienced after our daughter was diagnosed with leukemia when she was two years old – food insecurity for parents while staying in the hospital with their child.
When we first learned about our daughter’s diagnosis, we struggled. We struggled with our new reality. We struggled to acclimate to life in the hospital. We worried about our daughter’s wellbeing. We didn’t sleep much. We didn’t eat well. We were surprised to learn that parents are not provided food while staying with their child unless they purchase it. We were confused by this, as most children have a parent or guardian staying with them in the hospital.
Feeding Families Foundation, and our Parent Plate Program, covers the cost of caregiver meals delivered to the hospital room so parents do not need to leave their child’s side. By partnering with children’s hospitals, our Parent Plate Program utilizes the hospital’s existing food service infrastructure to provide food to parents. When a parent orders a tray for their child, they can also order one for themselves paid for by Feeding Families Foundation.
We firmly believe that parents need support during their child’s hospitalization. We hope our program, and the support it provides, alleviates some of the burdens parents face when their child is in the hospital so they can get back to what matters most – caring for their child.
Feeding Families Foundation would like to thank the Young Lawyers Section, and YLS Chair Sara O’Brien, for honoring our mission and selecting our nonprofit as the beneficiary of the funds raised at this years annual holiday party. On behalf of Feeding Families Foundation, and the families we help, thank you for your support.
